Wild rumour: Lexus LFA successor gets V8 engine after all

Right now, the closest thing we get to a replacement for the Lexus LFA supercar is called the Electrified Sport Concept. But that may well change.

Lexus plans to send a sports coupe to the streets by 2030 at the latest. So far it has the name Lexus Electrified Sport Concept. A bit far in the spit perhaps. But it indicates that the car is running on electricity. And only that… and yet. Because according to the Japanese site Mag-X, Lexus may very well have plans to have a version of the car with a combustion engine sent to the streets. So at the same time as the pure electric car. The car with a combustion engine, the Japanese say, will be powered by eight cylinders. This despite the fact that two years ago Lexus publicly buried a project with the engine from the track racer LC 500. But Lexus has not shelved the project completely. It was already 'revealed' last year when some patent applications for a four-liter V8 biturbo engine appeared in Lexus' name. That engine had to have at least 600 horsepower. Thus, Lexus fans will still get a replacement for the track car with number plates GR010, which Toyota scrapped after problems. Among other things, a fire in connection with a track test. The flagship is coming… anyway The engine in the GR010 was a 3.5-liter V6. And it doesn't look like it will come again. The V8 does the opposite. If it all holds true, Lexus should be ready to unveil the project very soon. At least parts of it. Leaked Toyota/Lexus plans have long shown that in 2022 a flagship model should be given the green light. And when it doesn't turn out to be the GR010 racing car, there is immediately only one option left. The big question is whether the Toyota group can see the idea of producing an electric and petrol car on the same platform. The Japanese may already be hinting at that at this year's Pebble Beach exhibition in California. It is the 21st of August.
