In January 2023, the people behind the solar car Lightyear 0 turned things around. Soon after, they were resurrected as a solar cell manufacturer. A cheaper car still lurks, however.
The car brand Lightyear is not quite as dead as you might think.
After the bankruptcy in January 2023, the Dutch company otherwise shelved all plans for a canine solar car called Lightyear 0.
But all hope is apparently not extinguished, even though the prototypes, which were built in a factory in Finland, were sold off at auction last April.
Lightyear states in a press release that it has secured 'a strategic investment' from two capital funds in South Korea. How much money is involved, however, does not appear from the brand's press release.

– We are pleased to welcome Sunbo Angel Partners and Lighthouse as strategic investors, says Lightyear's managing director Lex Hoefsloot.
Apart from the fact that the South Koreans are also 'looking forward to the collaboration', there is no further information to be found in the press release.
But there are indications that the Dutch have not given up on building an electric car that gets its power via solar cells. On the website, you can still sign up for the waiting list for the 'cheaper' Lightyear 2.
The company says that the car will cost around 40,000 euros in the base model. This corresponds to just over 300,000 Danish kroner.
And while it's not exactly a giveaway, it's still cheaper than the '0' model that the Dutch tried to sell at 250,000 euros. This would today correspond to 1.86 million Danish kroner. Read more about it here .
