We are at least seven years ahead of Tesla, says the competitor

7 years. That's the lead that Lucid Motors believes it has when it comes to electric cars. And at least compared to Tesla.

If you want to see what Tesla will be doing in seven years, just look in the direction of the somewhat smaller brand Lucid.

The brand with a factory and headquarters in California believes that they are very far ahead of Tesla. Even if there is still only one Lucid in the model range, the Lucid Air.

In comparison, Tesla has a total of five cars in the program. Four, if we subtract the Cybertruck, which (yet, ed.) is not available on the European market.

Not even if Tesla sells millions of cars every year – and Lucid barely delivered 10,000 cars in 2023 – is there anything to come after, the small car brand believes. It's all about technology.

On LinkedIn, Lucid's CEO, Peter Rawlinson, boasts graphs that purportedly show that it will take Tesla seven years to reach the level of technology already found in a Lucid Air.

But the graph leaves a number of questions. Something that is addressed both in the comments section and at InsideEVs .

Blue. the graphs do not take into account the fact that the electric cars are very different in their construction. Among other things, the Tesla Model S is only available with four-wheel drive, while the Lucid Air is rear-wheel drive and built on a 900-volt architecture. Tesla should therefore have greater – and therefore faster – development potential than Lucid.

But unless, that is, Lucid will use some of the many billions it has just received from a co-owned oil fund for further development. Read more about it here .
