Wanted to build electric motorcycles – now they're out of business

In a press release about its own bankruptcy, Energica's board writes that it dissolved itself on Monday this week. As a result, no electric motorcycles will be built in Modena.

Energica's dream was to build electric motorcycles. But now the plans have ended in bankruptcy, and a board has dissolved itself on Monday this week.

The company writes this in a press release .

– There are very big challenges when it comes to the technical part, it says, among other things. from the now closed Modena company.

Founded in 2010, Energicas managed to work both with the International Motorsport Federation FIM and the owners of MotoGP.

Just as the American venture capital firm Ideanomics has previously paid a larger sum for 75 percent of the company. But now the cash register is permanently closed.

The now former board does not hide that it has been difficult both on the technical side and with the opportunities to raise new capital for the project.

– We have tried to find capital or investors who were prepared to enter the project, but it has failed, and the only option we see now is to go bankrupt, writes the board.

The bankruptcy means that the 45 employees will lose their jobs at the small factory in Modena. But their wages are for the time being guaranteed by a state fund.

The hope now is that some investors can see the potential in the remains of Energicas. Or perhaps the technology behind it, so that it can be further developed. But whether it will come to anything remains to be seen.

On the other hand, the Italian/American motorcycle manufacturer is far from being the only company on wheels that has broken its neck this year.

The car brand Fisker, which was founded by the Danish designer Henrik Fisker, has long since gone bankrupt throughout the Nordic region. And now the outside world is only waiting for the parent company in the US to liquidate itself. Read more about it here.
