Volvo Cars has just unveiled their newest addition to the electric car range, the Volvo ES90, at their Capital Markets Day in Gothenburg.
This all-new, all-electric sedan model marks a significant development in Volvo's car production and testifies to the company's continued focus on innovation within the electric car industry.
Simultaneously with the presentation of the Volvo ES90, the updated version of the iconic Volvo XC90, a plug-in hybrid SUV, also made its debut. This model has been updated with both technological improvements and a fresh redesign of the interior as well as the exterior.
A significant upgrade in the new Volvo XC90 is a larger and more advanced central touchscreen that offers sharper graphics and access to new functions and apps.
This screen will also facilitate regular software updates that improve the car's functionality and usability by placing frequently used applications such as maps, media and phone directly on the home screen.
This improvement will be implemented in existing models via a software update expected to reach 2.5 million Volvo owners globally by 2025.
Moving on to technological innovation, Volvo Cars announced an expansion of its collaboration with NVIDIA, a key player in artificial intelligence and deep learning. The Volvo EX90, the company's flagship SUV, is equipped with NVIDIA's DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip (SoC), which enables advanced computing to support features such as enhanced lane assistance and future autonomous driving.
Going forward, Volvo plans to implement NVIDIA DRIVE Thor across its model line-up, which will multiply the current computing power.
Volvo also explained how they are optimizing their electric car development through their overall technology platform, the Volvo Cars Superset Tech Stack. This platform integrates systems, modules and software to create a scalable and efficient foundation that is already used in the Volvo EX90 and will be used in future models.
