A Volkswagen dealer thought he had found a great scam by importing Volkswagen electric cars from China. But it doesn't work, says Volkswagen.
A German Volkswagen dealer has been sued. Volkswagen in Germany has indeed discovered that he has parallel imported the brand's own electric cars from China.
Specifically, Volkswagen has taken the dealer Gregory Brudny to court because he has imported 22 copies of the model ID.6 from China.
Cars, the dealer explains, which he got through the official channels. Even by Volkswagen's own joint venture in China – VW-FAW.

All to get cheaper electric cars. In December 2023, the German government chose to withdraw all public support for new electric cars. Something that otherwise meant that Germans could get up to 6,000 euros in support for the purchase of a new car.
However, the support scheme was only half that when the German government abolished it in December last year. The ID.6 that Volkswagen is now mad about, found in Germany, is basically just an ID.4 with an extended wheelbase.
On the other hand, the ID.6 is significantly cheaper. In China, it costs the equivalent of 33,700 euros. While Volkswagen in Germany will have at least 43,600 for the sister car.
The German authorities have even approved the ID.6s from China after some modifications. Among other things. software updates.
But Volkswagen doesn't want to talk about that. This is because – says the car brand – among other things, the ID.6 is not equipped with an automatic cornering brake, which is required by law in the EU.
In a preliminary ruling, it has been decided that the cars must be impounded. But Volkswagen in Germany wants the cars destroyed. However, the dealer appealed both the decision and Volkswagen's request on the spot.
