Volkswagen reports all sold out… of the brand's ketchup

After the famous currywurst, Volkswagen has come up with a spicy ketchup, which people reportedly love just as much.

Volkswagen is facing many challenges at the moment, especially financially with a debt of 3,200 billion kroner.

But one product still manages to stand out in the midst of the crisis: Volkswagen's condiment ketchup.

Once offered for a limited time through VW's "DriverGear" platform, the ketchup quickly sold out, especially in the US. Since then, VW spice ketchup has become a surprisingly popular product among the brand's fans.

That's what Auto Bild writes.

Volkswagen has for many years produced food products such as currywurst for their employees at the German factories.

Currywurst has been a regular part of the company's canteens since 1973 and is considered an important tradition among the employees.

In 2023, Volkswagen sold over 8.3 million 'specimens' of currywurst, which was an increase of 400,000 poles compared to 2022. Currywurst is also available in many supermarkets in the state of Lower Saxony, where it is a well-known item.

Volkswagen's currywurst was originally developed by the brand's own chefs, and the recipe is kept secret from the public.

It was exactly the currywurst that created the basis for the development of the ketchup, which came on the market in 1996. Both products have gained great popularity, not only in Germany, but also internationally.

– This year we are celebrating more than just a car sale, says Rachael Zaluzec, vice president for customer experience and marketing at Volkswagen.

– We celebrate memories, stories and the unexpected things that make Volkswagen the brand it is today – including our spicy ketchup, she says.

In the US, Volkswagen is marking its 75th anniversary, and one of the latest people to bring the company's food products into focus is Jamie Orr.

For years, he has taken bottles of VW spice ketchup as souvenirs from VW's headquarters in Wolfsburg. He has shared the messy dip with other fans in the US.

Although many fans in the US were unable to get their hands on the ketchup, they won't have to wait long. Because already in connection with ChainFEST in Los Angeles, which was held on October 5, the American importer could announce that the item number '00010 ZDK-259-101' is back in stock.
