Volkswagen is now recalling the small, electric e-Up, which was in production for almost 10 years. The car has rust problems.
The small Volkswagen e-Up! is probably not available as factory new anymore, but the brand from Wolfsburg still cannot let go of the car completely.
Now it turns out that there are rust problems around the car's steering gear. The problem is so severe that the components can crack. In the end, this can mean that the steering gear stops working altogether.
This is confirmed by Volkswagen, which states that the steering gear has been too poorly protected against rust attack from the factory.
It is not the first time that Volkswagen has recalled the small electric car. An entry in the recall database Car-recalls.eu shows that it has happened three times before. The first time was in 2014, when there were problems with airbags that could deploy themselves.

The most recent recall is from 2021. Here there were problems with a short circuit in the car's battery pack, and now it is crazy again.
However, Volkswagen also states that in a number of cases the error has already been rectified. But not all e-Up! owners have been notified yet.
However, recalls are not exclusively something that affects Volkswagen owners. The bankrupt car brand Fisker Inc. has already had to recall several cars in its short lifetime.
Like the brand, it is the subject of several regulatory investigations in the United States, partly because the owners have described terrible problems with the brakes. Problems that also exist in Denmark. Read more about it here .
