Volkswagen has problems – postpones much-anticipated electric car

It was intended that the Volkswagen Golf should continue as an electric car. Now there are problems with the platform, which postpones the car until at least 2029.

Volkswagen has run into problems with the SSP platform on which the group will build future electric cars. It postpones the much-awaited ID.Golf.

It was otherwise intended that an all-electric Golf should be on the roads in 2027. But now it is postponed by 15 months to sometime in 2029 at the earliest.

This is written by the German Manager Magazin .

The decision to postpone the launch of an all-electric Golf was said to have already been made at the absolute top management level in Wolfsburg.

The problems delaying the SSP platform also have consequences for the SUV, which Volkswagen is currently just calling the T-sport. It is delayed by three years and is now only expected on the roads in 2031.

Until then, Volkswagen will keep its current electric cars alive by investing a little more money in the MEB platform, which, among other things, ID.3, 4 and 5 are already built on. A number of Audi, Skoda and Cupra models do the same.

The first models based on the updated platform called MEB+ will probably be seen on the roads in 2026. What this means for the current Golf, which the factory has already declared to be the last of its kind, is not known.

But Volkswagen has just presented the most potent Golf ever. And although the Danish prices are not yet ready, the price in Germany shows that it will be a car that few can afford. Read more about it here .
