Volkswagen comes up with a new threat about electric cars

Volkswagen boss Daniela Cavallo calls on the German government in strong terms to throw money at electric cars. Otherwise, you will not be able to reach the goal of 15 million electric cars in 2030, it says.

Volkswagen wants the German federal government to throw more subsidy kroner into the development of electric cars and e-mobility.

This is what the head of Volkswagen's work committee, Daniela Cavallo, says according to Automobilwoche .

If some euros are not put on the table, Daniela Cavallo fears that the German car industry will not be able to reach the goal of 15 million electric cars by 2030.

– The politicians must also support it (the electric cars, ed.). Not just guidelines, Daniela Cavallo said on Monday in connection with a conference in Berlin.

At the conference, Daniela Cavallo also said that at the moment she cannot see the support for the huge challenge that the car brands have in front of them.

However, there are also car brands that renounce public support. On the other side of the Atlantic, Stellantis' CEO, Carlos Tavares, does not want US protection in the form of tariff walls against China.

He believes that this is not necessary in relation to the group's competitiveness. It will not help Stellantis, which is already a global car company, he believes.

Back in Germany, however, several people cast doubt on whether it is even realistic to have 15 million electric cars on the roads by 2030. That is otherwise the government's stated goal.

As recently as last December, the German government withdrew all support for motorists who wish to buy a new electric car. Overall, sales of electric cars therefore fell by 55 percent already the following month.

And according to the financial media Bloomberg, electric cars find it difficult to cope on the German market without support from the state. In fact, sales are expected to drop another 14 percent this year.
