USED TEST: BMW E39 M5 – cool future classic

From 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds The oil temperature is exactly where it should be. I press the innocent-looking Sport button on the dashboard, which instantly sharpens throttle response. I go from sixth to third gear and now it gets the whip. The engine emits a masculine roar, then it holds my body in the driver's seat with a force you rarely experience in a discreet sedan like this. 100 km/h is over in just 5.4 seconds, and if it wasn't for the electronic limiter and the fact that I'm on a motorway in Denmark , this car would continue all the way to 300 km/h. However, the M5 can do more than just go straight ahead. Although it does bank a bit, it's fantastic in turns, and if you want to coast sideways, it's also perfect for that sort of thing. Some are available from DKK 300,000. The most incredible thing about a BMW M5 E39, however, is that they are now available for human money. In fact, you can find individual copies on Danish records for around DKK 300,000, but beware!

There are many poor and short-lived examples out there, so expect to spend around DKK 350,000 or more if you want a nice and well-maintained example. Even at that price, it's hard to find other cars that offer the same amount of fun and versatility for the money.
