Toyota sued by angry drivers in 'useless cars'

A number of American Toyota owners are now suing the brand because they believe that their hydrogen cars have become useless in the country.

Contrary to this at home, there are still hydrogen stations left in the USA. But there is still more distance between them.

Back in February, Shell announced that it was closing all of its hydrogen stations in California. And that has driven owners of the Toyota Mirai quite mad in the garbage. So at Toyota.

In a class action, the owners claim that Toyota has sold them hydrogen cars that are now 'useless' due to the ever fewer hydrogen stations. A senator from California also agrees with the angry motorists.

– Owning a hydrogen car is, to put it mildly, not a good experience, says Senator Josh Newman, who himself owns a Toyota Mirai.

In a statement sent to InsideEVs , Toyota in the US acknowledges that there is a problem. At the same time, however, the importer says that 'we are working closely with the affected owners to find a solution'.

Toyota believes that part of the solution is for drivers to find 'other hydrogen stations in the region'. Now, California is no small place. Or, for that matter, something you just put together in an afternoon.

Nevertheless, Toyota emphasizes that it will continue to work to support the 'rollout of hydrogen stations' in the state of California. Perhaps because Toyota in the US is trying to throw Mirai models in the neck of the Americans. Read more about it here .

At home, Toyota will not remove the Mirai from the model range, even though it will be a year since September that the last hydrogen station was taken out of operation.

This has left several Danish drivers – and not only those in the Toyota – with 'useless' cars. Lars M. is one of them. He bought a car for DKK 550,000, which is now very difficult to get anything out of. Read more about it here .
