In 2023, the Europeans were so obsessed with the GR86 that Toyota sold more copies of the small sports car in our latitudes than the okopot Prius.
The GR Yaris sold almost as well in Europe as the Prius did last year. That reveals Toyota's own sales figures.
But what is even more interesting is that the small sports car GR86 was sold in greater numbers than the piggy bank Prius. And even here in otherwise car-hostile Europe.
Toyota announces that the brand sold 4,041 new GR86s in Europe last year. By comparison, the Japanese only managed to sell 2,755 copies of the Prius here.
This is stated by Toyota Europe in a press release .

However, this can be due to several things. For example, Toyota only started delivering the brand new version of the Prius to European customers late in the year.
On the other hand, GR86 itself is a case in point. The model is living on its absolute last model year. At least here in Europe.
After the summer, it is thus no longer possible to obtain a factory-new GR86 from a European Toyota dealer. Toyota itself explains that this is due to a number of stricter requirements from the EU.
Specifically, Toyota does not believe that it is economically sound to equip the small sports car with road sign assistant systems. And so it is almost an unavoidable requirement.
