Tom Cruise will revive iconic car movie after 34 years

Tom Cruise both wrote history for and starred in the car movie Days of Thunder from 1990. 34 years later, he wants to do a second.

It's been 34 years since Tom Cruise played the lead role of Cole Trickle in the NASCAR car movie Days of Thunder. And if you ask the 62-year-old Cruise, he would gladly do it again.

This is written by The Hollywood Reporter .

And if Tom Cruise lives up to his rules 'rules', we will see something for a Days of Thunder 2 in 2026. Then 36 years have passed. Exactly as long as there was between the first and second Top Gun movies.

A source familiar with the potential film plans tells The Hollywood Reporter that it all depends on the script. A script that Cruise ultimately needs to vouch for if the film is to come to fruition.

Otherwise, it is not because we have lacked car movies with huge budgets in recent years. Both the Formula 1 film Rush from 2010 and the later Le Mans 66 from 2019 had budgets approaching $100 million. That today would correspond to almost 700 million Danish kroner.

However, there have also been gigantic disappointments among them. Both the 2023 film adaptation of Brooke Yate's biography of Enzo Ferrari and the one-year-old film about Ferruccio Lamborghini received little more than a lukewarm reception.

The question is whether a film with Nascar as a backdrop can do better? Or how about another film about Formula 1. Even with a Dane in the cast. Read more about it here .
