Three car factories in Europe shut down by special strike

Stellantis states that the car factories have been shut down due to a strike for several days, and that it is not known when the assembly lines will start again.

Stellantis' car production at two factories in France and one in England is at a standstill.

This is not happening because the group's own employees have gone home, but because a number of sub-suppliers refuse to deliver parts to the factories.

Reuters writes that.

In a statement to the media, a Stellantis spokesman confirms that it has been forced to slow production at the Poissy and Hordain factories in France, while a factory in Luton, England, is also idle.

According to the spokesman, the car group does not yet know when production can be restarted. The factories came to a standstill at the beginning of week 17.

Specifically, the production of the DS 3 and Opel Mokka is affected. While the assembly lines that produce the Peugeot Expert, Citroën Jumpy and Opel Vivaro vans have also been shut down.

It is not the only conflict that threatens Stellantis' car production. There are also problems in the United States. Here, there is a conflict over prices with the subcontractor MacLean-Fogg.

If Stellantis chooses to stop payments here, the sub-supplier can stop all shipments. This will mean that the brand's gearbox factory in Kokomo, Indiana will have to close.

Stellantis paid back MacLean-Fogg $1.4 million in March amid loud protests for some parts needed for production. But now the supplier is again threatening to withhold parts.

All in all, there are enough embarrassments and problems on the table of the Stellantis management at the moment. For example, Alfa Romeo, which is part of the group, had to withdraw a name for a new car model after just 5 days. Read more about it here .
