This is how workshops cheat motorists, says mechanic

There are rotten vessels in all industries. Also among mechanics, where the worst happily prey on motorists.

Millions follow when the American Scotty Kilmer opens his mouth on social media. And once in a while it's actually worth paying attention.

Scotty Kilmer also uses his huge platform – 6.1 million people follow along on YouTube alone – to warn against the mechanic industry's dirtiest tricks towards motorists.

And it's easy. In any case, easy money made when customers jump in with both feet, because they often blindly trust the mechanics.

According to Kilmer, one of the things that the mechanics most often cheat on is oil leaks. The mechanics simply say that major repairs are necessary to stop the oil spill.

– Here we have an old engine (in a Toyota Celica, ed.). You can see that just by looking at it. But when you look under the car, it doesn't drip oil at all.

– They (mechanics, ed.) will tell you that they need to disassemble the engine and replace all gaskets – and that it will cost you 1,200 dollars (8,280 Danish kroner, ed.).

– If your engine is not leaking oil and there is nothing under it, don't jump on it.

– But if there is oil on electrical parts, such as the generator, it is something you must have repaired the leaks, Kilmer admits in a video he has shared on TikTok.

However, Scotty Kilmer, whose full name is Scott Michael Kilmer, does not only use his platform to warn against mechanics and their shortcuts to easy money.

He also shares tips and tricks so his followers can fix their own cars. Having said that, the 70-year-old Kilmer also has his views. Among others about cars he absolutely does not want to own. Read more about it here .
