Car sales in Denmark received a strong boost in April with 27 percent more new passenger cars sold compared to the same month last year.
Overall, 15,323 new cars were registered, indicating a promising start to the second quarter for the automotive industry. A significant part of this growth is due to an increasing trend towards private leasing, which now accounts for 30 per cent of new registrations – a significant increase from 17 per cent last year.
This explosive growth in private leasing reflects a change in consumer behaviour. Uncertainty in the market has led more people to choose leasing over the traditional car purchase, which provides flexibility and fewer financial risks.
According to Mads Rorvig, managing director of De Danske Bilimportorer, the stable development in the first quarter has given way to this increase, but the underlying uncertainty causes more and more people to choose leasing as a safer unloading.

The electric car market also experienced an impressive ceiling in April. A total of 6,581 new electric cars were registered in the month, a doubling of almost 90 percent compared to April last year.
With a market share of 43 percent of new registrations in April, electric cars continue their rise as an important part of the green transition in Denmark.
Mads Rorvig points out that this progress for electric cars is decisive for achieving the national climate goals, but he warns that future tax increases may put a damper on this positive development. In order to maintain momentum in the transition to electric cars, it is important that politicians keep the taxes at a reasonable level and create a stable framework for the electric car market.
The list of the best-selling cars in April reflects the growing popularity of electric cars and some of the most popular car models. The Renault Megane E-Tech topped the list with 671 units sold, while the Volvo EX30 and Peugeot 208 followed closely behind with 615 and 604 cars sold respectively.
Other notable models on the list include the Citroen C3, Volkswagen ID.4 and Audi Q4 e-tron, underscoring the diversity of the market.
