2024 is coming to an end. Owners of electric cars are left to look back on a year in which they lost an awful lot of money on their cars. Now the biggest losses have been calculated.
Cars lose value. As a driver, you can and should expect that. But 2024 has been particularly hard on electric cars and their loss of value.
A British study shows that some electric cars have lost up to a third of their value in just one year.
The Nissan Leaf is the electric car that has experienced the biggest loss in value in the UK, with a drop of 34.5 percent. The Leaf was one of the first mass-produced electric cars. The average price of a used Leaf from 2017 onwards is currently around 114,000 kroner.
The Volkswagen ID.4 has also lost a significant portion of its value – around a third. The average price of a used ID.4 is around 250,000 kroner.
The Skoda Enyaq is a hit. Especially among Danish car buyers. It's just not reflected in the price. The Czech SUV has dropped by more than 107,000 kroner over the course of this year. Right now, the model costs an average of 250,000 kroner as a used car.
Previously, the range of electric cars was limited. But today, most car brands have at least one electric car in their range. This has led to a larger market for used electric cars. But a supply that does not match demand has also given prices a serious blow.
Those looking for a used electric car, on the other hand, see the plummeting value as a clear advantage. According to car research site Carguru, there are huge savings to be made by buying a used electric car right now.
One is what the cars lose in value on the used market. Something completely different is what the cars cost the car brands even before they have left the assembly line. Ford is one of the brands that loses the most on otherwise brand new electric cars. Read more about it here .
