These electric car owners are the most loyal, research shows

In general, loyalty among electric car owners – and car owners in general – has fallen significantly in recent years. But there are drivers who still stick to one brand.

Some car owners are more loyal than others. But in general, loyalty among motorists has improved over the past four years. At least to the car brands.

In 2020, 54.8 percent of motorists would choose a car from the same car brand again next time. It fell to 52.6 percent in 2021, for both 2022 and 2023 had to share the low point of 50.6 percent.

Loyalty has increased slightly this year to 52.5 percent. But it is still not up to par with the 2020 level.

This is shown by a new survey from the research firm S&P Global Mobility .

However, some car brands have a much better grasp of car owners than the average. Tesla is doing best. Brand loyalty stood at 67.8 percent in the first half of 2024.

According to S&P Global Mobility, all Tesla models can hold on to more than 60 percent of their owners, or at least send them into the arms of a new car from the brand. The Model 3 fares best, with 72.1 percent of owners choosing a Model 3 again.

It therefore does not play such a big role for the Tesla owners that the brand's managing director is in many ways a controversial figure. In fairness, S&P Global Mobility can also track a decline in Tesla owner loyalty. But that is not enough to change the brand's top position.
