In 8 years, the number of electric car failures that leave owners stranded in the discount has fallen by 80 percent, according to new figures from British roadside assistance.
Failures in electric cars caused by problems with the batteries have decreased by 80 percent over the past eight years.
This is shown by new statistics from the British automobile club AA (Automobile Association), which the German media Bild refers to.
The statistics reflect the number of drivers who have needed roadside assistance due to a flat battery. In 2015, the number of assistance calls related to electric cars with flat batteries was 8.26 percent. By 2023, the number had dropped to 2.26 percent, and by 2024 it is now down to less than one percent.
The decrease in the number of failures can be attributed to several factors. First, electric cars have become more reliable and battery technology has developed.
In addition, more charging stations have been added, making it easier to charge your electric car. Finally, drivers have become more aware of planning their trips and ensuring that they have enough power in the battery.
AA statistics show that electric cars have become more reliable overall. In 2024, assistance calls related to electric cars with flat batteries accounted for 2.2 percent of the total number of calls. In June 2024, the figure was even down to 1.4 percent.
Although batteries are rarely the cause of failures in electric cars, there can be other reasons why an electric car breaks down. Just like with petrol and diesel cars, problems can arise with the battery. And it still leaves many electric cars stranded. Read more about it here .
The British statistics are supported by similar findings from the German automobile club ADAC. Both organizations conclude that electric cars have become more reliable and that the risk of being stranded with a flat battery is minimal.
