The world's most expensive Saab is on sale in Sweden

One of just 28 Saab Sonett IIs is up for sale. The car could become the most expensive Saab ever sold.

A Saab Sonett II, which could potentially become the world's most expensive Saab, has just gone on sale in Sweden.

The car, which is among the rarest examples of the Sonett, is at the dealer Kaiser Classic. And here you expect a lot from the car. Especially the interest in it.

The Sonett II was produced between 1966 and 1969 in relatively limited numbers. The current car originates from a pre-series of only 28 examples that were produced in the spring of 1966.

A total of 1,868 cars were built in this generation, of which just 258 were equipped with the three-cylinder two-stroke engine of 841 cubic meters. The engine produces 60 horsepower at 5,200 revolutions per minute. Conversely, the car weighs no more than 745 kilos.

Came from the USA to Sweden
The car is today a mess and in good condition. But it hasn't always been that way. Because behind the paint there is a remarkable history.

The car has spent many years in the United States, where it participated in car shows and other events. During that period, it was often short-circuited for the many displays and exhibitions, which entailed wear and tear on the old mechanics.

Later, the car became part of a collection in Massachusetts, where its condition deteriorated considerably. In fact, the car was just allowed to decay.

In 2016, the car was discovered by the current owner, who decided to take it back to Sweden. Here, the car has undergone an extensive total renovation which holds up to this day.

The price is still unknown
– It is a car that is so unique that it is difficult to put a price on it.

– But we wait a few weeks and let the interest grow, says Christian Jacobsson from Kaiser Classic, who has the car standing.

The final price has therefore not yet been determined, but it is estimated that it can set new records for a Saab. However, Christian Jacobsson expects the car to cost either one million Swedish kroner or just under. This corresponds to 650,000 Danish kroner.

This Sonett II is an example of Saab's experimentation in sports cars and its modest production numbers make it a sought-after car among collectors.
