An example of the world's most expensive Ferrari – the Ferrari 250 GTO with frame number 3,589 – rusted away in a field for 14 years before it was found.
It happens from time to time that the real wild barn finds come to the surface. We have such an example here. And this Ferrari 250 GTO wasn't even found in a barn.
No, the car with chassis number 3,589 was left to its own devices. And that for a whole 14 years in a field on the outskirts of Zurich, Switzerland. This is where the Ferrari stood.
Although the wind and weather had left its mark on the car, Ferrari's special department, Ferrari Classiche, has still managed to save the rare GTO.
– For me it was a wonderful opportunity to go back in history. We have drawings from all the cars that have been produced throughout the company's almost 80-year history, says Andrea Modena, who works at Ferrari Classiche in particular.

The story goes that car number 3,589 was delivered to the first owner in England, won a number of races, because it made the trip across the Atlantic to the United States, where after a while it ended up in the hands of a technical school, because it was returned again across the ocean to Switzerland.
Here it was briefly around for a few years, because it was again parked and abandoned. This time for unknown reasons. It was only saved again in 2021.
There are not many of a 250 GTO. In fact, it is the car that the vast majority of those with a lot of money in this world turn over. This also makes the car model the world's most expensive street car ever.
A few times a 250 GTO has been traded in recent years. And each time at an ever higher price. In 2021, one of just 36 cars was sold for DKK 328 million. Read more about it here .
Two years later, the price – for one of the other cars – was 360 million kroner. In other words, no street car from Ferrari has ever been sold more expensively. PS: Amanda owns the world's oldest Ferrari. Boosted has also written about her – and the Ferrari. Read more about them here .
