The world's last Mercedes 300 SL, also known as the "seagull wing", is going up for auction. It will happen on November 24 this year.
A special Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing, also called the "gull wing", is going under the hammer at an auction in Las Vegas.
The classic Mercer is the absolute last of its kind. According to auction house RM Sotheby's, the car is expected to fetch a sale price of between DKK 30 and 35 million, but it is unknown whether it will set any records.
Mercedes presented the 300 SL for the first time at the motor show in New York in 1954. The car's unique design and the iconic doors that open upwards like gull wings immediately caught the attention of the audience.
The model was originally developed as a racing car for country roads and quickly gained status as one of the most recognizable cars in automotive history. A total of 1,400 examples of the classic coupe were built between 1954 and 1957.
This specific car was completed on May 15, 1957, making the car the last of the series. It carries chassis number 7500079 and is equipped with a three-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 240 horsepower.

The auction house RM Sotheby's describes the car's condition as close to perfect. With all original parts and colors preserved.
The car has been in the hands of owners who have made maintenance a high priority, which contributes to its high value. Earlier this year, the car was exhibited at a major auto show in Poznan, Poland, before being shipped to the United States.
Although the auction house expects high interest and a bidding war, the car is not expected to surpass the price of another notable Gullwing.
This was one of only 29 aluminum editions, and in other words it came from one of the most spectacular car collections ever.
