The Road Directorate warns motorists: Last chance

According to the Norwegian Roads Administration, this is the absolute last chance to get winter tires on the car if you want to be good in the snow that may fall this week.

The Swedish Roads Administration is urging motorists to switch to winter tires now, as there is a risk of snow in the coming week. The authority warns that this may be the last chance to have the tires changed before the winter weather really sets in.

"If you have not yet switched to winter tyres, it is about to be the last chance before," writes the Norwegian Road Administration on X.

DMI predicts wintry weather during the first days of the week, and as early as Tuesday, sleet and snow may fall in the south-eastern parts of the country.

– If you leave for work on Tuesday morning, it will probably be in fairly quiet weather.

– But when you go home in the afternoon, it will probably be somewhat harsher weather, says meteorologist Mette Zhang to Ritzau.

In connection with the upcoming weather forecast, the Road Directorate has shared a number of advice for motorists on its website:

  • Check the Swedish Road Directorate's Traffic Map before driving.
  • Leave in good time so you can steer carefully if there is a smooth line.
  • Make sure all windows and lights are free of snow and ice – remember the roof too.
  • Pay extra attention to exposed places where there is an increased risk of smooth lines, e.g. forest stretches, low-lying areas and bridges.
  • Remember that smooth lining is not always visible. Therefore, drive carefully, even if the road looks fine.

Regardless of the Road Directorate's recommendations, there is no mood to make winter tires mandatory in Denmark. At least not at Christiansborg. Not even though a survey shows that a large majority of Danes would like to be forced. Read more about it here .
