Since 15 November 2015, it has been mandatory by law to screw number plates onto all Danish cars. Not that it makes the license plates impossible to steal. It just takes a few extra seconds with a screwdriver.
Nevertheless, the police are now coming up with a warning to motorists who these days are missing the number plates for their cars.

In an interview with the newspaper, Mads Boel, communications advisor at Funen Police, is at least surprised that the number plates are disappearing.
Mads Boel believes that there are probably some who will wonder why a correctly fitted number plate suddenly comes off. If it is a case of theft.
But in fact the police believe that the number plates probably disappear because they are not mounted correctly on the cars in the first place.
On the other hand, lost license plates are not something the police spend resources on. The investigation is too difficult in situations without surveillance, it says.
