The new BMW M5 is a hybrid car with 727 horsepower

For the first time ever, BMW is powering the top model in the 5 Series. With its 727 horsepower, the M5 is more potent than ever before.

Never before has there been a BMW M5 with 727 horsepower. But there it is now.

For the first time ever, the brand from Munich is powering the top model in the 5 Series. But the result that the car is actually a bit slower.

At least compared to the predecessor. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h now takes 3.5 seconds against the previous 3.3 seconds. Keep in mind, it's not exactly a snail's pace. But it's… slower .

This is because the new M5 has put on a lot of weight. In fact, the weight has increased by as much as 24 percent because there must be room for the battery pack.

The new M5 thus weighs 2,445 kilos against the predecessor's 1,997 kilos. On the other hand, with the battery pack, BMW can keep the big 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine alive in a world of increasingly strict emissions requirements.

In terms of design, the BMW M5 keeps the style. That is, the one the brand has introduced with the introduction of the current M4. In other words, the front in particular is something that most people will probably just have to get used to.

Something BMW, on the other hand, does not care about is the top speed. As usual, it is limited to 250 km/h. Unless you ask nicely about something else. So the M Driver's Package is crossed off the list of optional equipment.

Because then BMW raises the new M5's top speed to 305 km/h. If we are to round the hybrid part once, it means that you can drive 69 kilometers on pure electricity. Without the petrol engine, however, the top speed is all the way down to 140 km/h.

Something else BMW is not changing is the four-wheel drive. However, it is possible to 'switch off' the front wheels, so that the M5 becomes a pure rear-wheel drive.

BMW in Denmark has not yet said anything about the new M5. Therefore, we also do not know anything about either price or launch. But Boosted follows suit.
