The Maserati Biturbo is resurrected with a V6 engine and 500 hp

After 30 years, the Maserati Biturbo Shamal is back. But that is too short a remark. Modena Automobili has given the V6 500 horsepower.

Modena Automobili gives new life to the classic Maserati Biturbo Shamal. The so-called restomod is unfortunately very limited in number. Only 33 cars will be built.

The original Shamal, launched in 1989, was equipped with a V8 engine, but the new version has received a modern V6 engine with biturbo, producing a whopping 500 horsepower.

The car is based on the original Biturbo, but has received a number of updates both mechanically and aesthetically.

The design is inspired by the angular lines of the original model but with a number of modern changes.

This is what the car company writes in a press release.

LED headlights, smooth surfaces and discreet rear wing give the car a 2024 look without breaking too much with the starting point. There are clear references to the original Shamal, among other things the front and side of the car have remained as 'everything was once'. Well, almost.

The interior is equipped with Recaro seats. But otherwise it is not much else that Modena Automobili will say about the cabin. Although they promise that the classic oval clock still adorns the instrumentation. Leather and 'other' materials are on the equipment list.

The 3-liter V6 engine, taken directly from the Maserati Ghibli S, has been modified to deliver 500 horsepower and 550 Nm. The car has also had an upgraded braking system and a Pirelli P-Zero tire fitment.

With a top speed of 290 km/h and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds, the technically more than 30-year-old car should be able to keep up with today's traffic just fine.

Modena Automobili expects to have the first prototype ready in early 2025. Unfortunately, the price remains secret. At least for now. It is certain that interested customers should not count on any gifts.
