The fuel pump for a BMW costs more than the entire car

It has always required a solid budget to drive a 12-cylinder BMW. But when parts for the 7 Series disappear from production, things go terribly wrong. This is the case with the fuel pump for the E65.

It's expensive. In fact, it's insanely expensive to drive an E65 760i, a BMW with a 6-liter V12 engine. Especially since the fuel pump has gone out.

This is what The Drive writes.

Here it has been discovered that the fuel pump in an E65 760i can no longer be obtained new from the factory if it breaks.

And because the fuel pump is only a part that is found on relatively few other cars (read: Rolls-Royce models, ed.), pumps that are in stock are enormously expensive.

20 years ago, when the car was still in production, the fuel pump could be purchased new for the equivalent of 15,000 Danish kroner. Expensive, but affordable.

Today it's a completely different story. Now some of the largest spare parts dealers will charge somewhere between 82,000 and 102,000 Danish kroner for the exact same part.

The scary thing is that it's more than the entire car is worth. And it's not just in the US. A quick look at the German car mecca, Mobile.de, shows you can get one for as little as 6,000 euros.

That's only a little more than half of what the fuel pump might end up costing you. Keep in mind, the extremely high price is for brand new parts. If you can find a used pump, it can probably be done cheaper.

But then there's the question of whether the pump works at all. And if it does – how long will it take before it stops?

The Boosted editorial team managed to find a used fuel pump for an E65 760i on Ebay for 10,240 kroner. But the question is – do you dare?
