The EU will force motorists to scrap older cars

With a new law, the EU will force motorists to scrap cars whose repairs and replacements cost more than the car's value. But it is illegal, says M Sweden.

This summer, the EU Commission presented the so-called EVL ( end-of-life vehicles ) directive. The Swedes in particular fear that they may be forced to scrap many cars if the directive becomes law.

M Sweden, which is Sweden's answer to FDM, calls the proposal unconstitutional.

This, says the association, is also in conflict with the EU's own rules.

– The consequence may be that you are deprived of your choir uniform against your will without compensation, writes M Sweden.

For the same reason, the organization will have put so much pressure on the EU Commission that Brussels will have to rewrite the directive.

And in that case, don't make the directive more than it is. Because if the directive does not become more than it is, it will be up to the individual EU countries to design legislation around it.

– The existing Swedish regulation is fully sufficient, and therefore the commission's proposal, among other things, on special regulation for the sale and purchase of choir uniforms should be revised, it says.

Specifically, the proposal in its current form aims to limit major repairs on older cars with a low value. Boosted already told that earlier this year.

In the proposal, the EU Commission sets an age limit of 15 years for what is called 'a used-up choir uniform'.

Fifteen years is not necessarily enough. The EU Commission is also targeting cars with 'high mileage'.

The EU proposes that a car must be classified as end-of-life if the costs to replace the engine, gearbox, essential body parts or other parts exceed the car's real value.

According to Euro News Weekly, there are still doubts about the consequences of the proposal. For a repair that, for example, costs more than the car is worth, the tow truck can also be classified as 'end-of-life'.
