The electric motor in Allan's car is dead – Peugeot refuses to help

Allan Poulsen bought a brand new Peugeot 3008 Hybrid in October. According to him, Peugeot promised a 7-year warranty. But now the electric motor is dead, and the car brand won't help.

Peugeot refuses to help Allan Poulsen, even though the electric motor in his three-year-old Peugeot 3008 hybrid has stopped working. The unexpected bill of over DKK 50,000 has left the Poulsen family in a frustrating situation.

It all started on Friday, November 1, 2024, when Allan Poulsen's wife needed to use the car. Nothing worked, and after contacting Peugeot, the car was taken to a repair shop.

After several days of waiting, Allan Poulsen received the discouraging message that the rear electric motor needed to be replaced at a cost of between 82,000 and 85,000 kroner.

Peugeot also refuses to provide any goodwill , as the car was older than 24 months. The warranty has therefore expired. It's just not what the family believes they were told when they bought the car.

– Peugeot will not give any concessions because the car was over 24 months old, writes Allan Poulsen in an email to Boosted.

The family subsequently received an offer for a replacement electric motor for 54,500 kroner. But even though it has been over two months since the car was taken to the workshop, it is still sitting in the Peugeot dealer's backyard while the family waits for a final clarification.

Allan Poulsen and his wife feel misled by Peugeot. During the test drive back in 2021, they believe the dealer assured the family that Peugeot provided a seven-year warranty on the hybrid part. But it turns out that the warranty only covers the battery.

– Now we have a car with a new price of + DKK 400,000 and have to pay approx. DKK 100,000 in repairs after 3 years, (which) we think is quite unreasonable, writes Allan Poulsen.

The Poulsen family is now in an uncertain situation. Boosted has asked the Peugeot importer in Denmark, Wismo Group, whether it is not unfortunate if one of the brand's dealers gives incorrect information to customers. We are awaiting a response.

Car warranties in Denmark are largely limited to two years. At least when it comes to factory warranties. Semler, which imports the Volkswagen Group's brands here, has however chosen to extend the warranty on new electric cars to 5 years.

Few other car importers can or will go that far. Peugeot's starting point is only the usual two years.
