The Bugatti Mistral is the world's fastest convertible

Bugatti set speed record. The Bugatti W16 Mistral is the world's fastest convertible with 453.91 km/h – at least unofficially.

The Bugatti W16 Mistral has set an unofficial speed record as the world's fastest convertible with a top speed of 453.91 km/h. The record was set at the Papenburg track in Germany with test driver Andy Wallace behind the wheel.

The speed surpasses Koenigsegg's official world record of 447 km/h, but Bugatti has not followed all the official rules for setting the record.

To achieve the speed, the Bugatti was modified with, among other things, a removed top speed limiter and alternative wheels.

In addition, the car only lapped in one direction on the track, where the official rules require one lap in each direction.

The W16 Mistral is one of the last models with Bugatti's W16 engine, producing 1600 hp. The Indian owner of the car, who also owns a collection of other Bugatti record cars, subsequently had the opportunity to take a ride with Andy Wallace in the record-breaking convertible.

The owner's collection includes Veyron 16.4 Super Sport (431.07 km/ti 2010), Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse (408.84 km/ti 2013), Chiron Super Sport 300+ (490.48 km/ti 2019) and now W16 Mistral (453.91 km/ti h).

Although Bugatti officially retired from record attempts in 2019, this performance shows that they are still capable of setting new standards for speed.
