Today it is three years since the Act on Insanity came into force. On that account, thousands of Danes – and foreigners – have had to hand over both cars and choir cards to the state.
On March 31, 2021, one of the most talked about laws in recent times came into force, when a majority in Christiansborg introduced the law on insanity.
Ever since then, the police across the country have been able to take both cars and driver's licenses from drivers under a wide range of conditions, including for speeding and drunk driving.
And the political circles have taken advantage of that to that extent. This is written by TV2 based on figures from the National Police.
Over time, more than 3,200 crazy drivers have had to hand in their driver's license and car keys. However, the vast majority of them do not have cards too strong. And that surprises the police.

– That spirits are so high surprises me. It is quite frightening that there are some who drive around in traffic with such a high blood alcohol level of at least 2.0. I think that is really, really violent, says Christian Berthelsen from the National Police's Communications Department to TV 2.
From 1 April 2021 to 20 March last year, the police seized 1,902 cars. The Ministry of Justice stated this in a press release.
A good number of them – i.e. the cars – have since finally been confiscated by the state. Among other things, a Lamborghini Huracan from perhaps the most talked about case of crazy carousel ever. At least here at home.
But the state has taken everything from more ordinary cars to highway rockets. Shortly after the City Court in Næstved confiscated a special Audi, the Copenhagen Police were able to say that they had seized another car for the carousel of madness. Read more about it here .
Denmark's most popular cars are also briefly in the police trap. The owner – a 60-year-old man – excused himself by saying that he was running late for a badminton appointment.
But it is not only Mr. and Mrs. Denmark in one or the other congestion, who have stepped on the accelerator a little too hard or had a little too much inside. Celebrities have also had to surrender cars for the crazy carousel.
And even though it wasn't really a carousel of madness, the former national team player Nicklas Bendtner had to see his Porsche Taycan disappear into the treasury last year.
