TEST: Dodge Viper goes 80 km/h… at idle!

Engine with lots of cylinders and the cubic V10 engine is often blamed for being a truck engine, which is not entirely wrong. However, it is a truth with modifications. The block actually comes from a truck. It had plenty of cylinders, lots of cubic, but it was far too heavy. Therefore, Lamborghini, which at the time was owned by Chrysler, was commissioned to build a copy of the block but in aluminum instead of iron. But even though some of Italy's best motor artists were familiar with the mechanics, it still feels very raw and unpolished.

Even if the design screams, you know after a few hundred meters behind the wheel that the Dodge Viper is built with the engine as a starting point. It is felt in everything you do with the car: from the moment the discreet, menacing rumble comes on until you step on the accelerator. Even at idle, every stroke is felt in the bowl-shaped seat. The instrument panel is filled with a string of instruments with white dials. They must help the driver keep track of the 11.9 liters of engine oil and 6.6 liters of coolant. The cardan tunnel feels like a guardrail that goes through the cabin. The size, however, means that your arm finds a really good resting position, while it receives information about the gimbal's work under the sparse padding. And it is not small things that come from here. The Viper goes 80km/h idling The six gears have an old-school transmission, with the sixth gear being a distinct overdrive. The speed at 1,000 0/min in sixth gear is 79.4 km/h. The low revs result in a deep rumble that seems to move closer as the crank speed increases. Viper ignoramuses would most likely take the car to a garage immediately to complain about a deep mumble, but there's no need for that. This is how a Viper should sound. The rear tires are as wide as a Lamborghini Aventador – they measure 335 mm! They help to help the blue supercar on the right track when you accelerate down a straight road. However, you can also use torque to make an American burner if you turn the steering wheel a little at the same time.
