Tesla stops the expansion of the factory in Berlin

It has been subjected to assassination, criticism and great debate. But now Tesla is stopping the expansion of the factory in Berlin. The car sale cannot follow.

– We will not spend several billions on expanding the factory without the signals being very clear that the market is also looking for it.

This is what factory manager at Tesla's factory on the outskirts of Berlin André Thierig says about the car brand's decision not to expand his workplace.

It was otherwise the plan that Tesla would build up to one million cars in Germany per year. Right now you can 'only' build half of that.

But the plan has met with strong opposition from both local residents and activists. The latter has even attacked the factory. Read more about it here .

Now the expansion plans seem to be falling apart. It is primarily a falling sale of new cars that causes Tesla to step on the brakes.

This is written by the Berliner Zeitung and the German news agency DPA.

– Our planning at the beginning of the year predicted significantly stronger growth, which has not happened, says factory manager André Thierig according to the Berliner Zeitung .

However, this is not because Tesla has completely written off the development of the factory near the German capital. But now it is said that the factory's management will wait until 'the market is ready for it'.

At home, Tesla can also note that it is no longer the most popular car brand. Because even though more than half of all new cars here at home due to tax exemption are electric cars, another, well-known brand now sits on the throne. Read more about it here .
