Tesla Roadster is delayed again – "Other cars are more important"

In connection with the publication of Tesla's quarterly accounts, the managing director Elon Musk revealed that a new Roadster is again, again delayed.

The Tesla Roadster has been delayed again. The electric car was presented as a concept in 2017. And Tesla director Elon Musk initially said that it would be ready for delivery in 2020.

When that plan was not adhered to, it became a new 'deadline' in 2024. But now it is clear that nothing will happen on that front this year either.

Musk expressed his gratitude to the many customers who have paid deposits and are still waiting for their Tesla Roadster.

According to Musk, the delay is a result of the Roadster being de-prioritized compared to many other projects that Tesla is messing with. Cars that are have greater significance for the brand's overall goal of a future of self-driving cars.

The director further explained that the Roadster is not just "the icing on the cake, but the cherry on top of the icing", and that Tesla has therefore chosen to focus on other models first.

While Musk hasn't given a concrete production date, he more than hinted earlier this year – back in July to be exact – that the Roadster is still part of Tesla's 2025 plan.

But with the latest announcements, it seems likely that there could be further delays. Maybe we'll have rain this year.

In October 2024, it became clear that there has been no significant progress in production, and Musk confirmed at a recent shareholder meeting that the car has been delayed once again.

Few details are still out about what the final version of the Roadster will look like. However, it is expected that the design will be similar to the concept from 2017. However, since Tesla has introduced new design elements such as their "Cyber" style, the production car may also end up differing significantly from the concept.

In terms of performance, the original concept was presented with an engine setup good for 1,000 horsepower.

In addition, Musk claimed as late as February of this year that a special SpaceX equipment package will enable the new Roadster to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour (0-96 km/h, ed.) in just one second.

However, it remains speculation, as Tesla has not published any actual figures about the car's capabilities. How long do you think we'll have to wait for a new Tesla Roadster? Join the debate in the comment track for this article on Facebook.
