Tesla people want to abolish government subsidies for electric cars

It could benefit Tesla even more if the future president of the United States abolishes state subsidies for electric cars. Anonymous Tesla people already support the idea.

According to the news agency Reuters, Tesla representatives support a plan to remove the US tax credit for electric cars.

The proposal to abolish the subsidy, which currently gives buyers up to DKK 52,000 in deductions per electric car, Donald Trump already aired during the just-ended election campaign in the United States.

Two anonymous sources close to the matter have stated to the media that Tesla people view the idea positively.

In the past, Trump has clearly expressed his opposition to electric cars and promised to abolish the so-called inflation reduction law if he becomes president again.

The law contains a number of economic incentives for green energy, including tax benefits for electric cars.

– The electric cars will mean the total annihilation of the American car industry, said Trump with his nomination as the Republican presidential candidate.

Although Trump has previously played down his criticism of electric cars as a technology, he maintains his opposition to the subsidies.

The removal of the subsidies is assessed by many in and around the car industry as something that will hit the established car manufacturers such as General Motors, Ford and Stellantis the hardest.

According to analyst Dan Ives from Wedbush, Tesla is better positioned than its competitors, as the company has focused exclusively on electric cars from the beginning.

– Tesla's share price has risen since Trump was elected, while General Motors, Ford and Stellantis have experienced clearly weaker results, says Ives to the Financial Times.

The transition to electric cars is expensive and complex for traditional car manufacturers that have decades of dependence on internal combustion engines. The removal of the tax deduction will therefore increase the pressure on these companies and at the same time give Tesla a competitive advantage, it says.

This is not the first time Elon Musk has shown an interest in political influence. During Joe Biden's reign, Musk sought to establish a closer relationship with the White House, but that was hampered by Tesla's lack of cooperation with labor unions. Trump, on the other hand, has been more welcoming to Musk and Tesla.

The world's richest man has even been hired to review the entire state budget in the United States. Already, Musk believes that he will be able to cut expenses for 2 trillion dollars.

Trump's plan to eliminate the subsidies is causing a stir in the auto industry and among political observers.

What this will mean for competition in the electric car market in the United States remains to be seen, but Tesla appears to be among the companies that stand to benefit from such a change.
