Tesla owner exposed by ex-wife – must pay DKK 700,000.

A man shorted wrongly in his Tesla, shorting the autopilot. Now the ex-wife's recordings reveal that he was sitting in the front passenger seat.

A Tesla owner must pay back 700,000 Swedish kroner, equivalent to 466,000 Danish kroner, which he received in compensation for his crumpled Tesla Model 3.

Recordings that the ex-wife secretly made with her phone reveal that her now ex-husband lied to the insurance company when he claimed the car had skidded onto the highway and had locked the wheels.

This is written by Gefle Dagblad .

Initially, the insurance company accepted the explanation. And the truth only came out when the couple separated and the ex-wife sent the revealing footage to both the insurance company and the police.

Footage reveals the man asked his wife to crawl into the back seat so he could get off the wheel and get into the front passenger seat. After a minute, however, the Tesla's autopilot switched off, and the car rammed into some guard rails.

In addition to her ex-husband now having to pay back the insurance sum, the police are now also considering whether he faces an unconditional disqualification for 2 years.

In any case, he is charged with gross negligence and fraud. Incidentally, it is not the first time that a Tesla owner gets off on the wrong foot and ends up on the wrong side of the law.

Like the Swedish man, an American had mistaken Tesla's autopilot for what the company calls fully autonomous capabilities. It ended up costing a motorcyclist his life.

The American man is now charged with negligent homicide. The men at the scene admitted to the police that he trusted that 'the machine would drive the car for him'. Read more about it here .
