Tesla doubles the power from Supercharger charging stations

Tesla opened the first so-called V4 Supercharger in Denmark in December 2023. But the replacement – called Cabinet – is already on its way with double power.

Tesla is in the process of upgrading its charging stations with new technology to increase efficiency and make charging faster.

With the introduction of the fourth generation of their Supercharger, also called V4, since December 2023 Tesla has charging stations with longer cables and payment terminals in Denmark.

But now something new is coming. Also something wilder than the maximum charging power of 250 kW in the V4 chargers.

The car brand is in fact developing so-called Cabinet chargers. They basically double, at least if Tesla is to be believed, the charging power to 500 kW.

Passenger cars will be able to be charged with up to 500 kW, while the Tesla Semi truck will have access to a maximum power of 1.2 mW. This development marks a technological upgrade that also makes it possible to support electrical systems with voltages from 400 to 1,000 volts.

The existing Tesla models, including the Model 3, S, X and Y, will continue to be able to be charged with a peak power of 250 kW.

However, charging times for newer models such as the Tesla Cybertruck are expected to be significantly reduced. For the Cybertruck, the new power of 500 kW can lead to a charging time that is 30 percent shorter than now.

The plan is for the new charging stands to be delivered to Tesla's charging stations in the course of next year. However, it is unclear when the new technology will be available in Denmark. A trade dispute between Tesla and the trade union IF Metall in our neighboring country Sweden may have an impact on the rollout in some regions.

Speaking of that conflict, Tesla has just lost its latest battle. The Swedish Supreme Court has refused to look into a special complaint. Read more about it here .
