For the second year in a row, Rivian tops the list of car owner satisfaction. Things look completely different for Volkswagen and Mercedes.
While a whopping 86 percent of Rivian owners would buy a Rivian again, Jeep fares poorly. Only 51 percent of car owners would buy one again.
Mercedes performs almost as poorly, ranking 26th out of 27 car brands in a major satisfaction survey from American Consumer Reports.
The study is based on data from a survey of 300,000 car owners who have reported problems with their cars.
Volkswagen, which has just thrown billions of kroner at Rivian, is not getting off to a good start either. Only 54 percent of the brand's customers would consider buying a new model from Wolfsburg.
Chrysler, Nissan and even Audi fare almost as badly when owners are asked how satisfied they are with their cars. None of the aforementioned car brands can manage a satisfaction score higher than 2 out of 5.
The satisfaction score is calculated by Americans based on five parameters – namely; comfort, driving experience, storage space in the cabin, the cars' practical use and costs.
Remarkably, none of the 27 car brands included in the study scored top marks in three out of five categories, even though Rivian, Porsche, Volvo, BMW, Cadillac and Mercedes all scored top marks when it came to comfort.
Consumer Reports also notes that there are several brands that have one model with a high score, while Rivian is clearly successful with both of its models – R1S and R1T.
However, the same Consumer Reports also notes that electric cars generally have many more defects than their equivalent gasoline and diesel cars. Read more about it here .
