There are indications that electric cars can easily be sold when the state provides subsidies. In a few hours, the Italians emptied a pool of 200 million euros.
200 million euros or the equivalent of 1.4 billion Danish kroner.
So large was the pool targeted at new electric cars that the Italian government gave the country's motorists the opportunity to take part in.
The grant was opened for 3 June. But already after nine hours, the entire pool, which gave the individual the opportunity to get up to 13,750 euros in support for an electric car, was empty.

In order to get all 13,750 euros, which corresponds to 102,000 kroner, in support for a new electric car, the individual driver would have to earn less than 30,000 euros per year. This corresponds to an annual income of DKK 223,000.
And that's the kind of money many Italians live for. But income was not the only requirement for motorists. Italy also required motorists to scrap their Euro 2 rated car.
The new car must officially emit no more than 20 grams of CO2 per short kilometres, and otherwise it must not cost more than 30,000 euros. For that kind of money you can get, for example, a Fiat 500e.
A car Fiat actually sells so few of that the brand will now build hybrid cars on the electric car assembly line. Read more about it here.
Whether the Italian government has plans for a new pool of subsidy crowns for electric cars is currently unknown. But the money that has already been spent comes – some would say – too soon.
For example, it is not until 2027 that the Volkswagen Group believes it will be ready with a number of electric cars that cost 20,000 euros, equivalent to 150,000 kroner, or less.
