Small car brand builds last model with Audi's 5-cylinders

The small Dutch car brand Donkervoort is ready to retire both Audi's five-cylinder petrol engine and its own F22 model.

Dutch Donkervoort has decided to retire the 2.5-liter 5-cylinder gasoline engine that the brand has bought from Audi for many years.

As a mark of the engine's importance to Donkervoort, the brand is sending a final version of their F22 model, called the "Final Five", onto the streets. Only five examples of this special car will be produced.

The 2.5-liter turbo engine produces 500 horsepower, which in combination with the car's low weight should give everything else on four wheels a fight to the finish line.

The F22 Final Five weighs only 716 kilos. Which gives a power/weight ratio of a whopping 698 hp per ton.

The weight has been reduced by a further 34 kilos compared to the standard model due to the massive use of carbon fibre. The entire body is, for example, made of the feather-light material.

The car is further optimized with ceramic brakes, which save 2.5 kilos of unsprung weight per wheel. In addition, rims in carbon fiber and a titanium exhaust system must be added. The exhaust alone makes the car 4 kilos lighter.

The drivetrain itself consists of a five-speed manual gearbox, which transfers the power to the rear wheels via a Torsen differential.

Donkervoort states that the car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 290 km/h. In addition to acceleration, the car pulls up to 2.3G through turns thanks to an advanced suspension system.

Donkervoort wouldn't have been Donkervoort if it weren't for a sea of extras. So do the Final Five cars. Including a ceiling system, upgraded air conditioning, heated seats (yes, heated seats), a customized interior, front and rear cameras, an alarm system and carbon fiber seats from Recaro (presumably not the German division, which is about to go bankrupt.)

But… wait. Because there is bad news. All five copies of the F22 Final Five have already been sold. The price started yesterday at DKK 2.35 million. This places the car in the same price range as a Ferrari 296 GTB without tax.
