Skoda only made one Superb with nearly 500 horsepower

There are many Skoda Superbs on the road. But only one of them has upwards of 500 horsepower from the factory. The name is Sleeper Edition.

You have probably never heard of the Skoda Superb Sleeper Edition. Firstly, it is built for the UK market. Second, it is right-hand drive.

But that doesn't take anything away from the performance. Because as the only factory-built Skoda Superb in the world, it has almost 500 horsepower. Specifically, there is 470 horsepower to do well with.

The car is the result of a collaboration between the British importer and the tuner RE Performance. The importer himself says that the car is a potent farewell to the current generation of Superb.

And they are right about that. With its 470 horsepower and 661 newton meters, the 2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine has more power than the Audi RS 4 Avant 'Edition 25. That car has to be 'enjoyed' with 465 horsepower from a 2.9- liter V6 engine.

RE Performance has conjured up the many horsepower by sacrificing a larger Garrett turbocharger, a different fuel system, intercooler and different downpipe on the Skoda.

It all comes together with a seven-speed DSG gearbox and four-wheel drive. The Volkswagen Group still has major problems with the DSG gearbox.

Especially connected to hybrid cars. Boosted has recently been able to tell. In fact, the Danish importer had to succumb when Boosted entered Hans Ole's very strange case with an almost brand new Passat GTE. Read more about it here.

Back at Skoda in England, there is not much to see about the Superb. At least no more than you can see on any other Superb. However, it has both adaptive LED headlights, a lowering kit and a special Royal Green paint job.

However, Skoda fans should not count on ever getting close to the special Superb. The car is not for sale at all. Instead, it is registered to the importer, who will let it be part of the car brand's English fleet of press cars.

The current Superb has otherwise been a gigantic success for Skoda. The model has sold 860,000 copies. It thus accounts for more than half of the 1.6 million Superbs that have ever been sold since the model was launched in 2001.
