Several parties want to tighten the rules for crazy cars

Several parties will now look at whether, after three years, it is necessary to tighten the rules for crazy traffic. Figures show that one in four reckless drivers is a foreigner.

Stricter rules for speed bumps are a topic that is now widely discussed in Christiansborg.

The background is new figures, which show a significant increase in the number of charges for insanity in Denmark. Several parties are ready to take tougher measures to tackle the problem and improve road safety.

According to TV 2, the police have raised a total of 3,965 charges for insanity up to 7 October this year, and more than one in four of these are aimed at foreign nationals.

This has caused concern among several political parties in Christiansborg, who are now calling for action. Among those charged are 1,115 drivers without Danish citizenship, which is an over-representation that attracts particular attention.

The Social Democratic Party's judicial spokesman, Bjorn Brandenborg, expresses great frustration at the development. He says to TV 2:

– I think it is absolutely crazy to see how many people get into a car and chant with contempt for other people's lives.

The Danish Democrats are also very concerned about the figures. Court Speaker Betina Kastbjerg emphasizes the need to tighten the legislation.

She tells TV 2 that she will ask the minister questions to investigate how the rules can be tightened further and prevent crazy drivers from getting away too easily.

The Danish People's Party also supports tighter rules. The party's chairman, Morten Messerschmidt, shared his concern in a post on Facebook, referring to a recent accident in which three elderly people lost their lives due to a crazy driver.

Messerschmidt writes:

– Much tougher action must be taken against reckless driving. More seizures of cars, tougher penalties and immediate revocation of the driver's license are necessary steps."

The discussion about the merry-go-round and the need for tighter regulations seems to be intensifying as more political parties join the debate.

There is broad agreement that something must be done to stem the serious development on Danish roads. But the tightening of the Insanity Act is actually nothing new. The government has already announced that it is looking at the possibility. Read more about it here .
