Several car brands are threatening to close electric car factories

The Stellantis group is now threatening to pull the brakes on several of its car brands in England. This is happening in protest over the lack of support for the electric car.

The Stellantis group is now threatening to pack up and close its factories in England. It is happening in protest over the country's rules and lack of support for electric cars.

Stellantis' director in England, Maria Grazia Davino, says the factories in Luton and Ellesmere Port are at risk of closing.

This will happen if the British government does not help to increase demand through public subsidies. Right now, Stellantis believes that you are effectively forced to produce twice as many electric cars as are needed.

Stellantis expects to make the decision within a year due to what the group calls unreasonable sales quotas and VAT terms.

– You must have strategies that are based on efficiency.

– I would like to keep the production in Great Britain, I state that clearly.

– It is stupid of the government not to cooperate with the industry to protect jobs, says Maria Grazia Davino according to The Guardian .

Davino criticizes i.a. the British government for not doing enough to get the business world over to electric cars. According to her, there simply isn't enough demand for electric commercial vehicles. In fact, there is none at all.

– There is no demand. We expect the government, whatever it looks like, to respond to it.

– We must cooperate for the benefit of the economy and people's health, she said.

The warning comes just one week after Stellanti chief executive Carlos Tavares called England's electric car policy "horrendous" and said it could ultimately break the group.

According to Carlos Tavares, the government's demands for the conversion of the roads forces to produce twice as many electric cars as what is actually needed and demanded.
