The Renault Twingo is almost ready. At the Brussels Motor Show, the French brand has shown a version of the car that is 'ready for production'.
Renault has released the first images of the production-ready Twingo.
The car, which is expected to hit the market in the first half of 2026, will be the cheapest electric car in Renault's model range with a starting price of under 20,000 euros. In Denmark, dealers believe that it can be exchanged for a price of under 150,000 kroner.
The 3.7-meter-long hatchback shares a platform with the Renault 4 and 5 and is based on Renault's Ampr Small platform.
The cabin is described by Renault as "spacious, cylindrical and suspended" with oval air vents and surfaces inspired by 1990s superminis. Aka the original Twingo.
The seats in the prototype match the car's exterior color, an idea taken from the colorful seat covers available in the original Twingo.
Another nostalgic element is the red hazard warning light button, which references the corresponding button on the old Twingo's dashboard. The front seat backrests are adjusted using skateboard wheels, another detail inspired by the 1990s.
Renault highlights that every aspect of the Twingo's interior is "designed to make life easier" with a range of features that increase storage space and usability.
There is storage space under the dashboard for bags and a flat shelf for books or sunglasses. The rear seat can be split and folded to increase boot space. In addition, there are magnetic phone holders on the back of the front seat headrests and an elastic bottle holder.
The prototype's floor is covered with cork, a material the French reportedly chose because of its durability.
However, Renault notes that "show cars are an opportunity to explore and test new ideas," so it's uncertain whether the cork floor will be found in the production model.
On the outside, there are only a few changes compared to the 2023 concept. There is now a hidden air intake in the front bumper, the rear wheel arches have become slightly smaller, and the corner trim has been given a honeycomb design.
The door handles no longer light up, and the semi-circular taillights have been connected to an additional LED strip at the bottom.
Renault says the latest version of the Twingo is ready to drive, but the brand has not revealed any more details about the powertrain. However, it is expected to be closely related to the one used in the Renault 5. Therefore, we do not know anything more specific about pricing in Denmark.
