Police on Facebook groups against speed checks: "No need to warn about us"

The police neither can nor will do anything about the many Facebook groups where motorists warn each other about the presence of law enforcement. But at Funen Police, the need is still a little surprising.

Facebook groups, which Danish drivers use to warn each other about everything from the general presence of the police to speed checks with plainclothes police officers, are numerous. Still, the police wonder that there is a need for the groups at all. This is what the head of the duty center at Fyns Police, Lars Tvede, tells Fyns Stiftstidende . In an article, the newspaper tells about how the citizens of Otterup on North Funen diligently warn each other about the presence of the police in the town. Also when there is speed control. And even though the police neither can nor want to do anything about the groups, Lars Tvede still wonders about the need. Many drivers already have a traffic alarm in their car, as the duty manager points out. Furthermore, the watch leader believes that it would be better if motorists kept to the speed limits. Then the police would have nothing to go after. At least not speeders. READ ALSO: This is how you mock the police in civilian clothes – I don't think there is any reason to warn against us. We must remember that we are not opponents. It may well be that there are people who think we are opponents because they drive illegal mopeds or in very defective cars, the duty manager told the newspaper. At the same time, Lars Tvede points out that the police run the risk of the criminals getting wind of their presence.
