Peugeot confirms: Will make GTi models out of electric cars

There's not much GTi – or Gran Turismo Injection – about electric cars. Yet Peugeot now confirms that the designation will be used on electric cars.

As soon as it is possible, Peugeot will have an e-208 GTi on the market.

This is confirmed by Peugeot's new CEO Alain Favey. The French brand will thus revive the GTi brand, which otherwise disappeared with the 308 in 2021.

This is what Autocar writes.

Alain Favey confirmed to the press that they are starting with the small e-208, before taking the next step with other models.

It's about listening to feedback, the French brand now says.

– We will definitely listen to your (journalists', ed.) feedback, but also what customers think and say.

Peugeot's confirmation that the GTi models are making a comeback comes just one month after Favey said he would consider this as one of his first tasks at the helm of Peugeot.

However, the French won't be inventing anything completely new. Instead, it seems they will be using exactly the same technology that Fiat already uses in the new Abarth 600e.

A car that is already based on the e-CMP platform, which is also the basis for the regular e-208. The Italian version has 240 horsepower, weighs 1,625 and reaches 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.

So it's not exactly a pocket-sized rocket, which the GTi cars have always been known for.
