People don't bother driving around in expensive electric cars anymore, says Rimac

New Rimac models will probably get some form of internal combustion engine, according to boss Mate Rimac.

The market for expensive electric cars may not have collapsed. But it's not one that just drones out there at autobahn-like speed either.

Mate Rimac has come to that realization. And in fact he believes he has realized more than that.

For people who really have money, at least don't bother spending it on electric hypercars. The wealthy motorists want internal combustion engines and a sense of analogue connection with their cars.

Instead, Mate Rimac acknowledges that 'there are forces that push something on us that we don't want' and that 'people are still a bit tired of it'.

That people with a choir card – and a lot of money – ignore the electric car goes beyond Mate Rimac's own business. For example, the Nevera model is still for sale.

Rimac has so far built around 50 of them. It is planned that a good 150 cars will be built in total. But for a purely electric relay, it can be difficult to find as many buyers for it.

– Rimac is not exclusively an electric car brand. We build what is most interesting at a given time, says Mate Rimac in an interview with Autocar .

The only 36-year-old Croatian also got his way when he entered into an agreement with Volkswagen for Bugatti. The Germans would like to see Bugatti transformed into an electric car only brand. But here Rimac put his foot down.

– I fought against Volkswagen – and I got my way – the next Bugatti will NOT be an electric car, he said in August 2022.

And Mate Rimac was right. Because in fact, Bugatti is not even abandoning the idea of an engine with 16 cylinders when the successor to the Chiron is soon ready. Read more about it here .
