According to De Danske Bilimportorer, new figures which map the European stock of passenger cars confirm that the passenger car is here to stay.
There are just under 2.8 million passenger cars driving around with Danish number plates. However, this is a drop in the ocean compared to the total stock of passenger cars.
At least if you look at the EU as a whole. This is confirmed by figures from the European car manufacturers' organization ACEA.
This is what De Danske Bilimportorer writes in a press release .

According to the Danish interest organization, the component of passenger cars, which have already reached 252 million in Europe, emphasizes that the passenger car is not on its way to the grave.
– Today there are many ways to have a car – for example, you can share, rent and own. It's about mobility, and here the car is an important element, says Mads Rorvig, managing director of De Danske Bilimportorer.
Looking at the fuel, it is still the petrol cars that dominate the European roads. But while the petrol car in Denmark makes up a whopping 61.7 per cent, on an EU basis it is down to 50.6 per cent.
This is followed by the diesel car with 40 percent. While pure electric cars make up 1.2 percent of the total vehicle fleet. The hybrids sit at 3 percent. The plug-in hybrids follow with 1 percent of the market and the 'rest' – such as hydrogen and gas cars – sit at 3.3 percent.
