In Sweden, the police have so far not had to use a number of new 360-degree cameras that sit directly on the police cars. But law enforcement must now.
The police in Sweden have been given permission to use advanced 360-degree cameras in their uniforms.
Previously, these cameras were illegal. But now they are put into use on a trial basis. The purpose is to improve the police's ability to monitor traffic and detect violations. The technology has already been installed in several Volvo models that patrol around the country.
According to Göran Bolinder, head of the police's national uniform supply, the new cameras can be used as a valuable tool in daily police work.
– It is a really good supplement to the police cars, he says. The cameras make it possible to record and save evidence in real time, which increases the police's ability to react quickly and efficiently, he tells Carup .
The new technology makes it possible for the police cars to get an overview of a larger area, without being visibly present to violators.

If, for example, a car runs a red light or does illegal wheel surfing, it can be registered without the driver necessarily noticing. In the past, the police had to get close to enforce the law, but this is no longer necessary.
– For example, it will be much easier to keep an eye on a car that is in any way suspicious, states Bolinder.
At present, the cameras are only installed in a limited number of choirs, which are distributed in different regions.
– I can't remember exactly how many cars they (the cameras, ed.) are out on. But it is evenly distributed across the country, Bolinder explains.
In addition to the cameras, the police plan to implement a new type of radar, which must be able to measure speeds in several lanes at the same time. However, the radar is delayed due to technical challenges, and there is no firm timetable for when it will be ready for use.
– No, there have been some IT problems, we don't know when this will be ready, says Bolinder.
The police emphasize that they will not use the radar, because they are sure that the technology works optimally.
– It is important that things work. We take safety first, he emphasizes.
Together, these technological measures must contribute to the police getting better tools to enforce the traffic law and increase road safety.
At home, the police are not yet roaming around with cameras that can see all the way around the patrol cars. On the other hand, law enforcement has access to a number of cameras in traffic, which you are not too keen on telling the public about. Read more about them here .
